App Store Screenshot Sizes 2026: Every iPhone, iPad and Google Play Spec

Quick answer: In 2026, App Store Connect requires at least one iPhone screenshot for the iPhone with Dynamic Island (medium display) class, 1206 × 2622 px or 1179 × 2556 px in portrait, and, if your app runs on iPad, at least one 13-inch iPad screenshot, 2064 × 2752 px or 2048 × 2732 px. You can upload 1 to 10 screenshots per device size as .jpeg, .jpg or .png, with no transparency. Everything else is optional, because App Store Connect scales your screenshots down for smaller devices when your UI is the same across sizes.

Screenshot sizes change almost every year as Apple adds devices, and many "cheat sheets" online still list last year's requirements. Everything below is taken from Apple's Screenshot specifications page and Google's preview assets page as of October 2026. If you are reading this much later, check those two pages; they are the only sources that count.

The rules that apply to every App Store screenshot

  • Count: at least 1 and up to 10 screenshots per device size.
  • Formats: .jpeg, .jpg or .png.
  • No alpha: images can't include alpha channels or transparency. A PNG exported with a transparent background will be rejected on upload.
  • Content: screenshots must follow the App Store Review Guidelines, which means they should show the app in use, not just marketing art.
  • Scaling: if your interface is consistent across device sizes and localizations, you only need the highest required resolution. App Store Connect scales those images down for smaller display classes. Upload device-specific sets only when your layout really differs.

Required iPhone and iPad sizes

Display class Portrait sizes accepted (px) Status
iPhone with Dynamic Island, medium display (e.g. iPhone 17, 17 Pro, 16, 16 Pro, 15) 1206 × 2622 or 1179 × 2556 Required for iPhone apps
iPad 13-inch (e.g. iPad Pro M5/M4, iPad Air M4/M3/M2) 2064 × 2752 or 2048 × 2732 Required if your app runs on iPad

Landscape versions (the same numbers swapped) are accepted too. Pick one orientation per set and stay consistent; mixing portrait and landscape inside one set looks broken in search results.

Optional iPhone sizes

These classes are optional. If you don't provide them, App Store Connect uses scaled screenshots from a neighbouring class, as described in Apple's notes for each class.

Display class Portrait sizes accepted (px)
iPhone with Dynamic Island, large display (e.g. iPhone Air, 17 Pro Max, 16 Pro Max, 16 Plus, 15 Pro Max) 1320 × 2868, 1290 × 2796 or 1260 × 2736
iPhone with Face ID, large display (e.g. iPhone 14 Plus, 13 Pro Max, 11 Pro Max, XR) 1284 × 2778 or 1242 × 2688
iPhone with Face ID, medium display (e.g. iPhone 16e, 14, 13, 12) 1170 × 2532, 1125 × 2436 or 1080 × 2340
iPhone with Home Button, large display (iPhone 8 Plus and earlier Plus models) 1242 × 2208
iPhone with Home Button, medium display (iPhone SE 2nd/3rd gen, 8, 7, 6s) 750 × 1334

Older 4-inch and 3.5-inch sizes are still listed by Apple, but almost no app needs them in 2026.

New in 2026: iPhone Duo screenshots

Apple's specification page now lists a separate iPhone Duo class with two displays:

  • Outer display: 1398 × 2034 px (or 2034 × 1398 px landscape)
  • Inner display: 2007 × 2853 px (or 2853 × 2007 px landscape)

Apple's note says that starting in April 2027, these screenshots will be required for any app built with the iOS 27.1 SDK or later, and that apps which submit iPhone Duo screenshots get a badge on their product page telling people the app is optimized for iPhone Duo. If you plan to support the device, design your inner-display layout now rather than stretching an iPhone set.

Other iPad sizes

Display class Portrait sizes accepted (px)
iPad 12.9-inch (iPad Pro 2nd gen) 2048 × 2732
iPad 11-inch (iPad Pro, iPad Air, iPad A16, iPad 10th gen, iPad mini A17 Pro / 6th gen) 1488 × 2266, 1668 × 2420, 1668 × 2388 or 1640 × 2360
iPad 10.5-inch 1668 × 2224
iPad 9.7-inch 1536 × 2008 / 1536 × 2048, or 768 × 1004 / 768 × 1024

If the 13-inch set looks fine scaled down, you don't need any of these.

Mac, Apple TV, Vision Pro and Apple Watch

Platform Sizes accepted (px) Status
Mac 1280 × 800, 1440 × 900, 2560 × 1600 or 2880 × 1800 (16:10) Required for Mac apps
Apple TV 1920 × 1080 or 3840 × 2160 Required for Apple TV apps
Apple Vision Pro 3840 × 2160 Required for visionOS apps
Apple Watch 422 × 514 (Ultra 4, Ultra 3), 410 × 502 (Ultra 2, Ultra), 416 × 496 (Series 12, 11, 10), 396 × 484 (Series 9, 8, 7), 368 × 448 (Series 6, 5, 4, SE models), 312 × 390 (Series 3 and earlier) Required for Watch apps; use the same size across all localizations

Google Play screenshot rules, for comparison

Google doesn't publish a device-by-device table. Instead it sets ranges:

  • At least 2 screenshots across device types to publish, up to 8 per device type.
  • JPEG or 24-bit PNG with no alpha.
  • Minimum dimension 320 px, maximum 3,840 px, and the long side can't be more than twice the short side.
  • To be eligible for Google Play's large-format recommendation surfaces, apps need at least four screenshots at 1080 px or more: 9:16 portrait at minimum 1080 × 1920 px, or 16:9 landscape at minimum 1920 × 1080 px.
  • Tablets and Chromebooks: at least 4 screenshots, between 1,080 and 7,680 px, 16:9 or 9:16.

Google also requires a 1024 × 500 px feature graphic and asks you to keep taglines under 20% of a screenshot and avoid "Best", "#1" or "Download now" style text. Our Google Play Console publishing guide covers the rest of the Android listing.

Practical workflow: one design, every size

  1. Design at the required iPhone size first (1206 × 2622 or 1179 × 2556). This is the set every iPhone user can see.
  2. Make the first three screenshots carry the message. Apple says your rating and up to three screenshots or app previews can show directly in search results, depending on platform and orientation, so many people decide before they ever open your page.
  3. Add a 13-inch iPad set only if you support iPad, and design it for the wider canvas instead of centering a phone image.
  4. Export to Google Play's 9:16 from the same source files so your two stores tell the same story.
  5. Localize the captions for your top markets. Our guide to screenshot localization explains which markets are worth it first.
  6. Test before you redesign everything. Use product page optimization to compare up to three alternative screenshot sets against your current one.

FAQ

What is the required App Store screenshot size in 2026?

For iPhone apps: at least one screenshot for the iPhone with Dynamic Island (medium display) class, 1206 × 2622 px or 1179 × 2556 px portrait. For iPad apps: at least one 13-inch screenshot, 2064 × 2752 px or 2048 × 2732 px.

Do I still need 6.9-inch (1320 × 2868) screenshots?

They are accepted in the large Dynamic Island class but are optional according to Apple's current specification page. Upload them if you want pixel-perfect images on the largest iPhones.

How many screenshots can I upload to the App Store?

Up to 10 per device size, and at least 1.

Why does App Store Connect reject my PNG?

The most common reasons are a size that doesn't match an accepted resolution exactly, or an alpha channel. Export without transparency and check the pixel dimensions.

Are iPhone Duo screenshots required?

Apple says they will be required starting in April 2027 for apps built with the iOS 27.1 SDK or later. Until then they are optional, and providing them adds an "optimized for iPhone Duo" badge to your product page.
